Follow the life of four talented musicians from their origins as they soared to one of the greatest Rock ‘n Roll bands of all time. This documentary tells the story of Freddie Mercury and his impact on a band, which would become a worldwide sensation: Queen.
Queen: Mercury Uprising talks briefly about Freddie Bulsara’s childhood, growing up in Zanzibar and India before moving to England and, eventually, London where he met Brian May, the guitarist of a local band, Smile. When Smile’s lead singer leaves the group, Freddie quickly takes his place and immediately incorporated his name and style into the group, changing his name to Freddie Mercury and the band’s name to Queen.
Learn about Queen’s struggle as they began by performing at colleges until they were discovered and the controversies that followed them throughout their career. Hear from Queen’s photographer about their Hollywood-esque style that helped put their album Queen II on the map and how they revolutionized music videos to what they are today. Queen had the ambition and confidence that, combined with Freddie’s strong and vivid personality, gave them one success after another, despite the press’ criticism of them.
This documentary also talks about Freddie’s love for his audience during their shows, the brief time Queen broke up, and Freddie’s personal life in regards to his homosexuality and death due to complications from AIDS. After his death, Queen’s fame continued to grow until their induction in 2001 into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame, making them one of the greatest bands and Freddie one of the greatest singers of all time.
