LEGENDS IN CONCERT - TONY BENNETT & TOM JONES: ATLANTIC CROSSING
‘Atlantic Crossing’ is an exclusive DVD production containing a fusion of two of the biggest music talents of the 20th Century. However different their styles, both have gained the adulation of a worldwide audience through their onstage charisma and massive record sales. Their beginnings couldn’t have been more removed with Tom Jones coming from Pontypridd in Wales and Tony Bennett from Queens in New York but both had a natural instinct to perform. Tom worked in many daytime jobs before being spotted performing in a bar by Gordon Mills, who began to hone this raw and very fresh talent into the star he is today. Tony on the other hand took a more academic approach to his singing, beginning with military bands through the war years and then training at the American Theatre Wing School. Tony’s break came when performing with the amazing Pearl Bailey. He was spotted by the equally amazing Bob Hope who suggested a change of stage-name from Joe Bari to Tony Bennett and so helped pave the way to greater glories. Covering such classics as ‘What’s New Pussycat’ (Jones) and ‘I Left My Heart in San Francisco’ (Bennett), along with a further 17 unforgettable tracks, this superb DVD compilation is a listening and viewing pleasure with no equal.

LEGENDS IN CONCERT - JAMES BROWN: LIVE AT CHASTAIN PARK
This fabulous DVD shows the great performer at the top of his career performing at Chastain Park, singing such timeless classics as Papa's Got A Brand New Bag and I Feel Good. Life, however, hasn't always been so good for the musician. James Brown, it must be said, has had a very varied life! Born in South Carolina in 1933, Brown's first step into adulthood were halted when, at the age of 16 he took part in a robbery and was arrested. He received a sentence of 8-16 years hard labour, although he served only a short period. Arguably the only good to come from his brief spell in prison was meeting local man Bobby Byrd in a baseball match which led to their performing in various clubs in Taccoa; a chance meeting that gave birth to his career.
In 1955 he joined the "Famous Flames" and attracted representatives of King Records and subsequently released Please, Please, Please that would become a top ten R&B hit. There followed many chartbound releases selling in excess of 100 million worldwide; but trouble seemed to stalk Brown as the IRS cornered him in the 70s demanding unpaid taxes of a colossal $4.5 million! Additionally he was involved in a major radio scandal and the break-up of his marriage. But to top all of these disastrous events, there was still to come the untimely death of his son, Teddy in a car accident: all this within the 70s - a truly desperate decade!
But whatever life has thrown at James Brown he has definitely earned the soubriquet of "living legend" - he is simply an unparalleled talent.
